Beth McCarthy - Music
You may recognise this little gem from the hit TV The Voice, and she is here to kick start her musical career with us.
Beth McCarthy is a young, acoustic singer-songwriter from York who has been gigging with her acoustic guitar since mid 2010. Taking her influences from acoustic behemoths such as Ed Sheeran, Gabrielle Aplin, Taylor Swift and the lyrical stylings of The Script, her style has been described as acoustic pop with a slight 'country-esque twang'.
After playing numerous gigs in her hometown, Beth is now reaching a wider audience having played various different music venues during her recently finished tour of England and also having played the Oxman Stage at Galtres Festival 2013. Following the successful release of her first single 'Hero' on to iTunes in September 2012, Beth has reached a new level in her career after organising the production, launch and release of her debut EP 'Northern Light' in the summer of 2013.
Beth plays a mix of her own songs, some poignant, some catchy, all well-crafted, and cover versions in her own dynamic style.
The Ratells
In the last 12 months The Ratells have played everywhere from trams to a library’s theatre, and train stations to O2 Academy’s up and down the country - upsetting British Transport Police along with way, see here.
With a sound variously described as “post punk indie pop”, “sparklingly melodic” and “epic”, The Ratells have quickly gained the reputation as THE must-see band in the vibrant Yorkshire music scene.
The Ratells work hard, very hard. Already on their 3rd UK tour, the band have attracted a large and growing fan base to venues across the country, including sell-out shows in Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds and their hometown O2 Academy Sheffield (1500 cap), all within the first half of 2013.
The band, hotly tipped by BBC Introducing’s Christian Carlisle, Iain Hodgson and recently mentioned on Huw Stephen’s Radio 1 show, are perhaps best known for their close relationship with fans and relentless self-promotion; the guerilla gigs on public transport, the constant blogging, regular newsletter updates to their 1,000 strong mailing list and and their insane efforts at personally replying to their
ever growing Twitter (4,500 followers) and Facebook (2,800 likes)
followers.
A quick glance The Ratells’ Twiter and you could be forgiven for being duped into thinking we have another boy band on the cards. Their followers, many of whom are teenage girls, increase by the hundred every day, creating their own ‘‘fan accounts’’, designing home made merchandise and requesting shows all over Europe & North America.
Over the last year, the band have kept their adorning fans close with a constant stream of acoustic demo’s, free singles, Ustream shows from their front room and even exchanges over SnapChat. It’s not hard to see why the band are constantly branded the ‘nicest’ band around; this
The bands latest single ‘F∆CES, released June 2013 went viral, with a video solely featuring pictures of their beloved fans racking up 10,000 views on YouTube within it’s first week. With previous support slots with the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Reverend and The Makers and The Courteeners, upcoming shows with Bob Geldof’s Boomtown Rats, a summer support tour with Room 94 and their 4th tour of the year and second single release planned for Autumn 2013, it looks very likely this will be the year of The Ratells.
