Finding Refinements in Love (1971)
While working in the Fox in the early 2000s and preparing for a screening of Deep Throat, Dimitrios Otis discovered a small storage space behind the silver screen that seemingly hadn't been touched in at least 2 decades. In there, he found a half dozen old rusty 35mm film cannisters. That night, he invited Cinema Sewer's Robin Bougie to the theater after hours (after all of the usual clientel had left) to load the projector and see what was on the reels. What they discovered that night was one of the last remaining prints of this lost sex movie, and on Thursday May the 28th they finally return REFINEMENTS IN LOVE home to the Fox, where it belongs!
About The Film
Just before XXX porn became legal and easily available to the public in North America after the wild success that was Gerard Damiano’s DEEP THROAT, dirty movie fans were only able to see graphic sex via a shortlived porno documentary subgenre known as the "white coater". These films hoped to stop the cops from closing the smut theaters down for obscenity by mixing hardcore sex with education, and this made for some very unusual films. Some of the more memorable efforts in this grouping were AMERICAN SEXUAL REVOLUTION, BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL, MAN AND WIFE, and this amazing rarity known as REFINEMENTS IN LOVE!

About Robin Bougie
Robin Bougie has been publishing Cinema Sewer magazine since 1997 and it is on its 28th issue. This ode to trash films, exploitation, classic porn, and other unusual genre films has spawned a series of 5 softcover books from England's FAB Press, and Bougie has also started a new series of full color coffee table books about the history of American porn movie poster art, called Graphic Thrills.
About Dimitrios Otis
Dimitrios Otis is a former schoolteacher who became a Porn Archeologist when he realized the Fox Cinema was one of the last adult theatres in North America still showing 35mm prints. He brought the den of depravity back into the public eye by screening Deep Throat, flying the legendary Ron Jeremy in, and curating an X-rated poster Art Show in the lobby. Many of the Fox archive of movies were transferred for DVD release. Recently Otis has rediscovered other forgotten porn artifacts such as the Canadian porno Sexcula and Ed Wood’s last movie The Young Marrieds.
