An actress for 17 years, starring in TV shows like London’s Burning, Ultimate Force, Lip Service and Prey. Heather left her role in BBC One drama Waterloo Road to fully commit to her flourishing music career.
She said: “Music has been my first love since I began singing in church and taking piano lessons at five years old. I paid my way through drama school with a Jazz residency in local bars and I flirted with the charts a little bit but this is the first time I’ve felt confident enough to take a break from acting to give it my full attention. As soon as I was free from learning lines and a 12 filming schedule, the songs and ideas flowed.”
Her debut album, Fairytales, entered the UK Independent Album Charts at number 7 and its melancholy beauty coupled with her incredible live vocals on tour have steadily built up a loyal, passionate fanbase.
Over the last three years, Heather has performed four sell out UK tours with her full band as well as four sell-out solo acoustic tours. She’s headlined London Pride, performed with her idol Alison Moyet and played shows with KT Tunstall, Rebecca Ferguson, Deacon Blue and Brian May. Internationally, she’s twice sold out tours across
Australia as well as headlining the world famous Sydney Mardi Gras Fair Day.
Last year Heather released her second album, The Thin Line, which has been called a ‘soulful, organic pop gem’. The sound incorporates Heather’s love of 60’s girl groups, Motown and 80’s pop. It rightly puts her rich, soaring vocals at the fore against a backdrop of lush pop strings, melodic piano riffs and fat basslines.
Says Heather: “I love Dusty Springfield and 60’s girl groups and from the beginning I knew I wanted an album that was recorded in homage to Spector’s Wall Of Sound. We wanted big songs with passion and grit and lots of harmonies. I spent almost a day picking the perfect vocal mic and then it took me almost two weeks to arrange and then record the backing vocals that really bring the record alive.”
Lyrically, The Thin Line is full of hope and passion dealing with friendship, sex, sexuality and relationships – and the trials of social media.
