McGregor will fight Diaz at welterweight (77kg), with the rationale given by UFC boss Dana White that the long-time contender could not cut weight to the lightweight limit of 70kg on less than two weeks’ notice. McGregor was happy to step up, despite the move meaning he will face a limit 12kg above his regular 65kg at featherweight.
Plus the co-main event features new Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm who takes on top contender Miesha Tate. After Holm’s demolition of Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 she is now the new queen of the UFC and will be wanting to retain her title and give fans the possibility of a Holm v Rousey rematch in 2016.
