Party: ASU Comedy Invades The Improv

ASU Comedy Invades:
The Farce Side Comedy Hour is not only Arizona’s only college sketch comedy troupe but also is the forefather of ASU Comedy, celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2015. Each semester, Farce Side is comprised of amazing, multi-talented students who write and edit original sketches while also rehearsing and performing weekly shows at ASU’s Memorial Union stage (Friday nights at 8pm). Members of Farce Side Comedy Hour have gone on to do many great things in the entertainment world, with some of its alumni working for and alongside big names like Ricki Lake, David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon. Farce Side is the cornerstone, the measuring stick for any and all ASU Comedy acts to look up to.

Barren Mind Improv, ASU’s resident improv comedy troupe, is a troupe of hilarity and accolade. Originally established in 1994, the “Whose Line Is It Anyway” improvisational style of this group has not only entertained many ASU students but has gained them national attention as they have won the “Best College Improv Troupe on the West Coast” award 3 years in a row. Barren Mind has also performed across the state and the country, performing not only at ASU but in Tuscon, Los Angeles and Chicago as well. Barren Mind’s fast and witty brand of comedy is turning heads and establishing them as a force to be reckoned with.

Stand Up vs. The World in its short existence has gone from a small group of people who wanted to be on stage to one of the biggest comedy acts in all of Arizona. Originally dubbed “The Comedians’ Club”, SUVTW started with a few ASU students who wanted to perform stand-up comedy but were too young or unrecognized to perform in clubs. Over time, with help from a myriad of ASU’s best stand-up comedians, it has grown to not only be on par with its ASU Comedy counterparts but has made an name for itself in the overall Arizona Comedy scene, with many professional comics doing guest spots and educating students of comedy.
