Party: TONIGHT! Public Works & Your Friends Present: Burners for NEPAL Benefit

When we got word of the undoubtedly tragic news in Nepal, we started brainstorming ideas and ways we could help. Here in San Francisco, we are blessed to have access to one of the largest Burning Man communities in the world. These members are capable of creating some of the most impressive art, music and performances this city has to offer and work tirelessly throughout the year to produce an event based around a gifting economy. On June 5th, we gather at the Public Works SF, to merge those fundamentals and a non-profit Nepalese Alliance called Sahayeta.org, to produce a symbiotic experience of getting down for a good cause.

+++The Impact & More Info on Sahayeta.org

Sahayeta.org is a registered 501c3 organization created by individuals who share similar stories of hardship and struggle in America, having arrived as international students, refugees and new immigrants from the Himalayan region. Our goal is to support causes in the Himalayan region to further education, health, children’s rights, elderly rights and women’s empowerment. Our specific goals for earthquake disaster relief in Nepal:

#1 A team from Sahayeta.org will lead an on-the-ground needs assessment to evaluate effective approaches to help with recovery efforts, especially in and around the epicenter, where almost 90% of homes have been destroyed. Funds raised will not go towards the travel cost for the team. 100% of proceeds will go towards reconstruction efforts.
After our assessment, majority of our resources will go to aiding local grassroots organizations that would not traditionally receive money from large donors. These could include schools, women’s group, youth groups, farmers and others who are working on the ground and delivering the most impact.
#2 Urgent relief efforts: Sahayeta.org is partnering with individuals and organizations in the Bay Area, Nepal and India to send food, clean water, tents, medicine etc. to make an immediate impact.
#3 Public health and safety- coming monsoons will have a profound effect - we will be partnering with public health organizations and local hospitals to support the mitigation of infectious diseases and public safety issues. This could be through
• Providing safe water drinking
• Medical equipment and
• Raising awareness and providing education
#4 Long term rebuilding efforts:
-Rebuilding Schools
-Offering scholarships for students facing hardship
-Rehabilitation help through access to physical therapy
-Creating economic opportunities for marginalized communities who have lost their sources of livelihoods
