Originally from the UK, Roger C is a DJ, music-journalist, and club / live music event promoter who recently re-located to Berlin (in December 2014) after many years of living & working in Barcelona (ES) & Sydney (AU). He has however been visiting the city, several times a year, since 2009 and has always had regular DJ sessions in bars like Das Hotel, Fahimi Bar, Monarch (Kreuzberg) & Astro-Bar (Friedrichshain). Now a full-time resident of Berlin, Roger C is looking for regular DJ sets, both in the city & throughout the rest of Germany as a whole.
Roger C plays a wide & eclectic selection of styles, both contemporary & vintage - drawn mainly from 50 years of funk, soul & organic dance music history. Deep Funk, Heavy Soul, Old-Skool Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, Dancefloor Jazz, Brazilian, Latin, Funky House, Reggae, Rare Grooves, Tropical Funk, Disco-Boogie. Both originals and modern re-edits & mixes. Some of his DJ sets are constructed exclusively for the dancefloor, and to keep the people moving all night without compromising the musical integrity, other sessions are better suited to a lounge environment.
After more than 20 years behind the decks, Roger C has played at a huge variety of events and venues around the world; from super-clubs in Ibiza (Space) to warehouse squat parties and raves in East London, from Sydney’s top cocktail bar / restaurant to bamboo shacks in the jungles of Thailand, sweatbox basement bars in Berlin to breezy backyard barbeques in Bondi, Cape Town’s finest jazz club to Chiringuito beach bars along the Catalan coast and neighbourhood fiestas in the streets of Barcelona.
Roger C has been the DJ of choice for Barcelona’s Roller Dance Summer Jam
laying down the boogie, for the visiting roller dancers from across the world to the city, for several years running. He has also made several appearances on the festival circuit; Quart (Kristiansand, NO), Beachdown (Brighton, UK), Purple Weekend (Leon, ES), Cully Jazz & Not Just This (Geneva, CH), Urbanfunke & Las Fiestas del Poble Sec (Barcelona, ES), plus industry events such as the International Live Music Conference (London, UK), Australian Music Week (Sydney, AU).
He has also been lucky enough to be the warm-up / after-party DJ at live concerts by some of the best contemporary funk bands; Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, The Breakestra, Charles Bradley & The Menahan Street Band, The Budos Band, The Sweet Vandals, James Taylor Quartet, The Bamboos, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, US3, Baby Charles, The Dynamites feat. Charles Walker, A Certain Ratio, The New Mastersounds, Deep Street Soul, Randa & The Soul-Kingdom.
Roger C has also shared decks & played at events with some fine DJs; Russ Dewbury (Jazz Rooms), Adrian Gibson (Freestyle Records), Maxi Jazz (Faithless), Talvin Singh, Eddie Piller, Henry Storch (Unique), Soul Jazz Sound System, Andy Smith & Drew Williams (The Goods) to name just a few.
Although not a music producer, Roger C has been asked occasionally to provide samples from his extensive record collection, to be included in other people’s productions. Most notable of these, were probably the beats & breaks used in Mudbone’s debut solo album ‘Fresh Mud’. Mudbone was a featured vocalist with Parliament / Funkadelic & co-founder of Bootsy’s Rubber Band & his album reached #1 in the iTunes Blues Chart.
