Party: Darren Middleton

Powderfinger guitarist Darren Middleton releases double A-side Single ‘Our Road’ & ‘The Lines’ on July 17th and announces forthcoming album ‘Splinters’ due out on November 6th.

“I’ve always felt that songwriting is about shaving off splinters of yourself and putting them into songs and for both Translations and Splinters, I have tried to do just that.” – Darren Middleton on the Splinters album

Darren Middleton is best known for his contributions to the legacy of Australian music as the guitarist in iconic Brisbane band Powderfinger who took the nation by storm dominating the Australian charts from their humble beginnings in 1992, right up until their disbanding in 2010. Now, Middleton steps out solo once again, announcing release of his upcoming album ‘Splinters’, a follow up to his 2013 full length debut solo album ‘Translations.’

The first taste of the ‘Splinters’ album due out on November 6th comes in the form of a double A-side single including ‘The Lines’ & ‘Our Road’ to be released on July 17th. Darren is joined by Guy Pearce, Talei Wolfram and the gospel style sounds of the Monash Choral Society on background vocals on first track The Lines. The Lines flows like an honest whisper, telling the conflicting Story of someone trying to do what is right, but wavering. Narrating a battle to stick between the lines, but finding it hard, the haunting yet anthemic chorus is a voice of patience warning caution with the decisions that are yet to be made.

‘Our Road’ is a song simply inspired by travel, going on a new journey to new places or with someone new. The song has taken many twists itself in its sonic delivery, arriving finally as an amalgamation of sharp muted guitar riffs matched with a driving drum line and Middleton’s signature melodic guitar solos.

With each new song, Darren sheds a splinter of his soul, carving unique stories that join together in creating a solid body of work that has as much depth as the strongest of heartwood. This upcoming release is relatable and touches on many themes and relationships; the relationship we have with our inner self, friends, lovers, in business, the world and society. As Darren Middleton explains: “All of our life is a relationship, an ever evolving and changing landscape of security, safety, hurdles, loss and discovery and both with Translations and Splinters, I am basically looking at my journey so far and laying it bare in songs.”

Fans that pre-order the ‘Spinters’ album due out on November 6th via Itunes will receive an automatic download of the double A side including ‘Our Road’ & ‘The Lines’ as an instant-grat from July 17th.

Celebrating the two-track double A-side release and approaching album, Darren will play a string of ‘Splinters’ preview shows along the East Coast throughout August and September supported by Sahara Beck.
